JAD ABUMRAD '91 and USN parent AMANDA LITTLE discuss the craft of cinematic storytelling and its future in the American media.
 
As creator of RadioLab, More Perfect, Dolly Parton's America and the Vanishing of Harry Pace, JAD brings his unique ability to combine cutting edge sound-design, storytelling and a personal approach to explaining complex topics together with AMANDA's expertise in energy, technology and the environment for an evening of revealing conversation. Having interviewed prominent public figures from Barack Obama to Robert Redford, and authored two investigative books relating to climate change, AMANDA is a superb reporter and commentator.
 
The numerous accolades and awards between these two is profound, and the merging of these minds together for a live audience is sure to be a thoroughly entertaining and interesting evening for all.

Jad Abumrad

Jad Abumrad is the creator of Radiolab, More Perfect, Dolly Parton’s America and the Vanishing of Harry Pace. He's
been called a "master of the radio craft" for his unique ability to combine cutting edge sound-design, cinematic storytelling and a personal approach to explaining complex topics.


Jad composed much of the music for Radiolab, and in the past has composed music for film, theater and dance.
Jad has received three Peabody Awards, the highest honor in broadcasting and two DuPont Awards. And in 2011, he received the prestigious MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship. He’s currently a Distinguished Professor of Research at
Vanderbilt University.

Amanda Little

Amanda Little is a columnist for Bloomberg and a professor of journalism and science writing at Vanderbilt University. Little is the author of the bestseller The Fate of Food: What We'll Eat in a Bigger, Hotter, Smarter World and gave a recent TED Talk, "Climate change is a problem you can taste," She also wrote Power Trip: The Story of America's Love Affair With Energy.

Amanda has written about energy, technology and the environment for the New York Times, Washington Post, Wired, The New Yorker and Rolling Stone. She has interviewed politically diverse figures from Barack Obama to Lindsey Graham. Amanda is the founder and executive director of Kidizenship, a media platform for students interested in civics and politics, and the youth civics magazine, Watch Us Rise.
