Instructor: Shayna Humphrey

Decades of research demonstrate that high emotional intelligence is a key indicator of high leadership capability. The relevance of such findings clearly applies to any person who aspires to lead well under normal circumstances.

However, as we contend with the amplified stressors brought about by the ongoing global crisis, our need for effective leadership—in our organizations and in our families—has never been greater. In fact, the convergence of pandemic-related stressors in our collective and individual lives may well represent the greatest test of emotional intelligence in a generation.

Addressing the heightened call for effective personal and professional leadership, adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management, consultant, and coach for The Work Institute SHAYNA HUMPHREY leads this class on exploring specific self-awareness and self-management skills that help navigate uncertainty, manage emotional reactivity, and reduce the negative consequences of high-level stress. Armed with these emotional intelligence skills, we can model poise under pressure and build the emotional competence and resilience needed not simply to weather but to thrive and lead in the face of challenging and changing circumstances.
