COVID-19 has disrupted every facet of daily life, including our courts. As we grow into our new reality, we have opportunities to revise basic systems. Join USN parent, Belmont Law Professor, and Chair of the ABA Criminal Justice Section LUCIAN DERVAN for a thoughtful look at the pandemic’s effect on the criminal justice system. With his strong background in criminal law, Dervan will explore how COVID-19 has impacted the courts and how it could change criminal justice forever.

Instructor: Lucian Dervan

Join Belmont Law Professor, Chair of the ABA Criminal Justice Section, and USN parent LUCIAN DERVAN as he explores the impact of COVID-19 on the criminal legal system. The discussion will include the manner in which COVID-19 has impacted the operation of the criminal legal system, the manner in which the criminal legal system has responded to the Pandemic, and the ways that COVID-19 may change criminal justice forever, including reform efforts that have been accelerated due to the Pandemic.

Lucian E. Dervan is a Professor of Law and Director of Criminal Justice Studies at Belmont University College of Law. He focuses on domestic and international criminal law. Professor Dervan is the author of two books and dozens of book chapters and articles. He is also the founder and author of The Plea Bargaining Blog and a contributing editor to the White Collar Crime Prof Blog (a member of the Law Professor Blogs Network). In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Professor Dervan currently serves on the American Bar Association Board of Governors and previously served as Chair of the ABA Criminal Justice Section. He is also the Chair of the ABA CJS Global White Collar Crime Institute and serves on the Advisory Committee of the NACDL White Collar Criminal Defense College at Stetson.
